Design of a heterologous biosynthetic pathway. a A host for the heterologous biosynthetic pathway is selected considering the capability of precursor and cofactor supply, genetic engineering tools, and industrial-scale fermentation capability, utilizing cheap and readily available carbon sources. b Enzyme activity is verified in vitro and subsequently in vivo. Products of the in vitro assay or intracellular reaction products are detected via spectroscopic analysis, mass spectrometry, or microbiological assays. c Heterogeneous genes and other functional elements are assembled on plasmids via gene assembly methods such as SLIC, CPEC, Gibson, golden gate, DNA assembler and LCR, or integrated into the genome. To decrease the difficulty of building the metabolic pathway, it is divided into separate modules. These modules are verified sequentially in a heterologous host and then assembled. d Based on the quantification of metabolites, bottlenecks should be removed and metabolic flux should be integrated to target compound maximization. To optimize gene expression in the metabolic pathway, promoters, RBS, and gene copy number are designed and implemented at the transcriptional or translational levels. e The characteristics of the engineered strains are verified via fermentation. Various substrates (e.g., ALA, cobalt ions, betaine and DMB) and varying conditions (e.g., dissolved oxygen concentration, pH, and temperature) can be optimized to improve yield and productivity

Industrial Microbiology A.H.Patel

Focusing on current and future uses of microbes as production organisms, this practice-oriented textbook complements traditional texts on microbiology and biotechnology. The editors have brought together leading researchers and professionals from the entire field of industrial microbiology and together they adopt a modern approach to a well-known subject. Following a brief introduction to the technology of microbial processes, the twelve most important application areas for microbial technology are described, from crude bulk chemicals to such highly refined biomolecules as enzymes and antibodies, to the use of microbes in the leaching of minerals and for the treatment of municipal and industrial waste. In line with their application-oriented topic, the authors focus on the "translation" of basic research into industrial processes and cite numerous successful examples. The result is a first-hand account of the state of the industry and the future potential for microbes in industrial processes. Interested students of biotechnology, bioengineering, microbiology and related disciplines will find this a highly useful and much consulted companion, while instructors can use the case studies and examples to add value to their teaching.

Author: A . H . P A T E LIndustrial Microbiology, Second Edition, provides the reader with grounding in both the fundamental principles of microbial physiology and various traditional and modern applications of micro-organisms to industrial processes, Most of these have been made possible (or enhanced) by recent developments in genetic engineering.

The book discusses key aspects of microbial physiology, exploring the versatility of micro-organisms, their diverse metabolic activities and products. lt divulges the role of industrial micro-organisms, and the technology required, in large-scale cultivation and isolation offermentation products, and in pollution control. lt investigates a wide range of established and novel industrial fermentation processes and microbial products including enzymes, foods, beverages, chemical feed stocks, fuels, biof-fertilizers and pharmaceuticals.Buy NowModern Industrial Microbiology and BiotechnologyAuthor: Nduka Okafor

The field of industrial microbiology involves a thorough knowledge of the microbial physiology behind the processes in the large-scale, profit-oriented production of microbe-related goods which are the subject of the field.Buy NowIndustrial Microbiology: An Introduction Author: Michael J. Waites, Neil L. Morgan, John S. Rockey, Gary HigtonOf major economic, environmental and social importance, industrial microbiology involves the utilization of microorganisms in the production of a wide range of products, including enzymes, foods, beverages, chemical feedstocks, fuels and pharmaceuticals, and clean technologies employed for waste treatment and pollution control.

Aimed at undergraduates studying the applied aspects of biology, particularly those on biotechnology and microbiology courses and students of food science and biochemical engineering, this text provides a wide-ranging introduction to the field of industrial microbiology. The content is divided into three sections:key aspects of microbial physiology, exploring the versatility of microorganisms, their diverse metabolic activities and productsindustrial microorganisms and the technology required for large-scale cultivation and isolation of fermentation productsinvestigation of a wide range of established and novel industrial fermentation processes and productsWritten by experienced lecturers with industrial backgrounds, Industrial Microbiology provides the reader with groundwork in both the fundamental principles of microbial biology and the various traditional and novel applications of microorganisms to industrial processes, many of which have been made possible or enhanced by recent developments in genetic engineering technology.A wide-ranging introduction to the field of industrial microbiologyBased on years of teaching experience by experienced lecturers with industrial backgroundsExplains the underlying microbiology as well as the industrial application.Content is divided into three sections:

Two new chapters, 21 and 22, have been added that deal with the microbial pesticides and biofertilisers, respectively. All the previous chapters have been revised and updated. An updated index has been included to give more importance to the book. This edition of the book will prove to be very useful reading material for all students, teachers, professionals, researchers, industrialists, scientists involved in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, environmental science, microbiology, biotechnology and life science. All the tables and figures have been newly redrawn to give full clarity to and good understanding of the topics. Most importantly, this book has been printed in two colours, it will give more impact to the students. The book also caters to the requirement of the syllabus prescribed by various Indian universities for undergraduates and postgraduates who are pursuing these courses.Buy NowBiotechnology Industrial Microbiology: A TextbookAuthor: W.
